How Smart Lighting Cuts Your Power Bill

← Back to Insights

The biggest source of wasted lighting electricity in most homes isn't the bulbs themselves — it's lights left on in empty rooms, or left at full brightness when nobody needs them to be. Automated lighting attacks exactly that waste.

Motion- and schedule-based automations mean a light only comes on when a room is actually in use, and turns itself off again once everyone's left — no one has to remember to flip a switch.

Dimming matters more than people expect. Running a light at 60% brightness instead of 100% both extends the life of the bulb and reduces the electricity it draws, and most everyday tasks don't actually need full brightness anyway.

Smart plugs extend the same logic beyond lighting: a fan, a heater or a set-top box left in standby draws power all day for no benefit — scheduling it to only run when needed closes that gap too.

None of this requires you to change how you live in the house. The savings come from the system remembering what you'd forget, not from asking you to be more disciplined about switches.
